It is increasingly clear that Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases present a challenge for our society. The diagnosis of those diseases is sometimes very difficult because a number of other diseases cause similar symptoms. A reliable method for early diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease is the brain scintigraphy using DaTSCAN. Here, the density of the dopamine transporter in the brain is shown. A loss of these transporters in certain areas of the brain is responsible for the development of Parkinson’s disease.
